The Big Ugly: The Dramatic Rescue of Fallen Big Wave Surfer

Dramatic Surfing Drone Video Of Fallen Big Wave Surfer Rescued By Jet Ski

“The Big Ugly” is the winner of the “News & Documentary” Award on the Los Angeles Drone Film Festival 2017 edition. The amazing footage was filmed by drone in Praia do Norte, Nazaré, Portugal and edited by Máquina Voadora.

Professional big wave surfer Pedro “Scooby” Vianna from Brazil suffered a terrifying spill during a storm in Nazaré, Portugal. Vianna was tearing down the face of a  70-foot mountain of water at 45 miles an hour on his surfboard. The beast of a wave nipped Scooby from behind and sent him crashing in a brutal back flip.

Fellow Brazilian, Lucas “Chumbo” Chianca, rode in on a jet ski to pick him up before the next monster set rolled in. Scooby grabbed ahold of a rear tow board latched to the jet ski, and they sped away in an attempt to outrun the next wave. Chumbo soon lost control in the choppy whitewater, and the jet ski capsized near dangerous rocks.

Now the rescuer needed rescue.

Everaldo “Pato” Teixeira, a veteran big wave surfer from Brazil, jumped into action on another jet ski. Teixeira rescued a relatively unscathed Chumbo and Scooby.
